The OWB (Original White Balance) filter allows an astro-modified Canon RP to produce natural-looking images for everyday photography again – without the typical red color cast. With the filter installed, the automatic white balance (AWB) works reliably and delivers well-balanced colors.
The IR absorption filter used in the filter holder reduces the infrared component of the incoming light, thereby restoring the color balance required for daylight photography. As a result, the astro-modified camera behaves like a standard Canon RP when photographing ordinary subjects. The filter glass used is a high-quality original Canon filter glass with a thickness of 0.6 mm. It was specifically developed for use in digital cameras and meets higher optical standards than inexpensive aftermarket alternatives or filter glass of unknown origin.

Technical Note
With our astro-modified cameras, autofocus and infinity focus continue to work as in the original model. The sensor (3) is protected by the top filter (1), and sensor cleaning remains functional.
Some providers advertise that replacing the original Canon UV/IR blocking filter (2) with a replacement glass offers a major advantage - compared to modifications where the filter is simply removed. But what does physics say?
The astro modification of Canon cameras has a clear goal: removing the blocking filter to increase H-alpha sensitivity (656.3 nm) to approximately four times its original level. This is the primary purpose of any astro modification. An additional replacement glass in the optical path does not improve light yield, as every optical element reflects, scatters, or absorbs light. Glass cannot create photons—it only reduces the amount of light reaching the sensor.
Additionally, replacement glasses can cause reflections, ghosting, or other image artifacts at high contrast, especially if low-quality materials are used. Empirical practice also shows that classic DSLR astro modifications have been successfully performed without replacement glass for years—proof that the H-alpha increase is achieved solely by removing the filter.
For the Canon RP, we have chosen a mechanical engineering approach involving precise CNC machining. Although this method requires more work, it allows the original IR-cut filter to be removed without the need to install an additional replacement glass. As a result, the following functions are preserved:

Delivery Time
Due to the complex modification process, the delivery time for the Canon EOS RPa is longer than for our standard models. Unlike conventional astrophotography modifications, this conversion involves not only the removal of a filter but also additional mechanical work on the camera body, including precise CNC machining. Condition / Warranty / Legal
The camera is in very good optical condition and is technically 100% flawless. The latest firmware has been installed in the camera. We offer a 3-year warranty on this camera.
The photos shown are example images. We do not use retouched product photos, and they show real devices from our inventory. Cleanliness and a well-maintained optical condition are important to us. Therefore, every camera is cleaned after modification. Although these are used cameras, many of our customers are positively surprised by the optical condition—which is reflected in the reviews.
