With this service, we convert your Nikon Z camera into an infrared or full-spectrum camera.
You are buying the service to convert your camera from us and not a new camera.
We install optionally an infrared filter with 590nm, 665nm, 720nm, 850nm or a filter for full spectrum. Tell us your choice after ordering.
The offer is valid for all Nikon Z models
After this modification, the only restriction is that you should use the electronic shutter for long exposures of 1 second or more, because otherwise the light from the IR diode built into the shutter will be visible in the image after the blocking filter has been removed.
Procedure of the conversion service:
- Please let us know your e-mail address after purchase. We will send you the address of our workshop, where you can send your camera insured.
- To convert your camera, send it to us well padded and securely packed. Include a fully charged battery and close the camera with the housing cover. No other accessories are required.
- We carry out the conversion within approx. 2-3 weeks in our workshop near Augsburg/Germany. The duration depends on the availability of the filter you have selected.
- We will send the camera back to you. You will receive an invoice with VAT shown. We grant a 2-year warranty on the conversion.
FAQ
1. which original functions of the camera are affected by the conversion?
The original filter is replaced during the conversion and the automatic sensor cleaning function is then no longer available.
2. After this modification, the only restriction is that you should use the electronic shutter for long exposures from 1 second, because otherwise the light from the IR diode built into the shutter will be visible in the image after removing the blocking filter.
3. that sounds good, what about references from eifelcam?
Read the reviews on Ebay: our sales were rated 100% positive. What started 13 years ago as a custom-made product for one of our customers (who, by the way, took two of the pictures shown here with a 1000Da), has developed into several dozen astro cameras that are converted every year. Our customers are naturally mainly in the DACH region, but the number of international customers in Europe is growing all the time. For some of the older ones among us, the name DolphinDOS for the Commodore C64 brings back memories. The owner of eifelcam and thedolphin.shop developed DolphinDOS together with his partner in 1985.

In the appendix you will find a selection of images taken with Canon and Nikon cameras modified by me. The images were taken in the Ahr valley and Normandy and impressively demonstrate the extended possibilities of spectral photography. The gallery is supplemented by impressive astrophotographs taken by Uli Klein in his observatory in the Eifel with a modified camera.
