The Canon EOS RP, modified for astrophotography, features a significantly increased H-Alpha sensitivity compared to the original model. This allows it to capture approximately four times more H-Alpha light than a standard DSLR camera.
The camera captures significantly more H-Alpha light and is perfectly suited for photographing diffuse nebula structures, red hydrogen nebulae, and faint emission regions of the night sky. This makes it the ideal choice for deep-sky imaging, Milky Way photography, and long-exposure astronomy. It is particularly aimed at ambitious astrophotographers who want to create detailed, high-contrast, and low-noise images of the night sky.
You will receive a professionally optimized astro camera that finally makes nebular structures of the night sky visible.

Canon EOS RPa – Special Features
The Canon EOS RPa has become a popular full-frame camera. The 26.2-megapixel full-frame sensor impresses with low image noise, high light sensitivity, and excellent low-light performance. Especially with faint celestial objects and long astronomical exposures, the EOS RPa impressively demonstrates its strengths.
For wide-angle shots of the night sky, the Milky Way, and large deep-sky objects, the full-frame sensor offers clear advantages over smaller APS-C sensors. Due to the larger sensor area, significantly more light can be captured, making finer structures and faint nebula details visible.
The Canon EOS RPa is increasingly recognized as one of the preferred cameras for demanding night photography and is also recommended by numerous astrophotographers and expert authors. Its very low noise at high ISO values and outstanding image quality for long exposures are particularly appreciated.
Thanks to integrated Wi-Fi, the camera can be comfortably controlled wirelessly, for example directly from a smartphone or tablet—a major advantage during cold nights and longer outdoor shooting sessions.
The robust construction, large full-frame sensor, and excellent low-light performance make the EOS RPa an outstanding camera for ambitious astrophotographers.
The included OWB (Original White Balance) filter allows you to take natural everyday shots with an astro-modified Canon RP—without the typical red tint. The automatic white balance (AWB) works reliably again with the filter inserted and ensures balanced colors.
The IR absorption filter used in the filter holder reduces the infrared component of the light and restores the color balance required for daylight photography. This means the astro-modified camera behaves like a standard Canon RP for normal subjects. The filter glass used is a high-quality original filter glass from Canon production with a material thickness of 0.6 mm. This glass was specifically developed for use in digital cameras and meets higher optical requirements than inexpensive replicas or filter glasses of unknown origin.
Thanks to the practical clip system, the filter can be quickly inserted and removed as needed.
- All functions (autofocus, aperture, image stabilization) remain fully intact
- Significantly more cost-effective than classic lens filters
- Attractive alternative to comparable OWB filters
- Simple installation

Why Customers Trust Our Astro Cameras
Since 2012, we have specialized in the professional modification of cameras for astro and full-spectrum photography. In our workshops, astro cameras, cameras, and lenses are precisely adjusted, modified, and repaired under controlled working conditions with cleanroom technology. The modifications are carried out by experienced photo specialists with many years of experience in astronomical camera modifications as well as camera and lens repairs. We have converted well over 1,000 cameras for astro and full-spectrum photography, each individually adjusted so that autofocus, infinity focus, and full sensor function remain intact. The precise execution of the modification makes our cameras high-quality tools for demanding astro and full-spectrum photography.

Technical Note
In astro-modified cameras, autofocus and infinity focus continue to work as in a standard model. The sensor (3) is protected by the top filter (1), and the sensor cleaning system remains functional.
Some providers advertise that replacing the original Canon UV/IR blocking filter (2) with a replacement glass offers a major advantage—compared to modifications where the filter is simply removed. But what does physics say?
The astro modification of Canon cameras has a clear goal: the removal of the blocking filter to increase H-Alpha sensitivity (656.3 nm) to approximately four times. This is the primary purpose of any astro modification. An additional replacement glass in the beam path does not provide any advantages for light yield, as every optical element reflects, scatters, or absorbs light. Glass cannot create photons—it only reduces the amount of light that reaches the sensor.
Additionally, replacement glasses can cause reflections, ghost images, or other image artifacts, especially when inferior materials are used. Empirical practice also shows that classic DSLR astro modifications have been successfully used for years without replacement glass—a proof that the H-Alpha increase is achieved solely by removing the filter.
For the Canon RP, we have chosen a mechanical-technical approach with precise CNC machining. Although the effort is higher, the original blocking filter can be removed without having to install additional replacement glass. This preserves the following functions:
Exposure metering
Autofocus
Infinity focus
Wide-angle compatibility
The advantages:
✔ No light loss due to additional optical elements
✔ No image artifacts due to reflections or scattering
✔ Simpler design—fewer components, fewer sources of error
Conclusion:
Replacement glass is optically unnecessary and reduces light yield. Our mechanical solution for the Canon RP proves that focus and wide-angle compatibility can be maintained without additional glass—for a technically clean and efficient astro modification.
